Household Solar PV Installations

Household Solar PV Installations

Solar PV is an ideal form of renewable energy. Easy to fit, quiet, reliable, and maintenance free it provides an ideal way to generate your own electricity and reduce your energy costs. take up in the UK up to now has been limited as the capital investment required made payback periods of over 25 years, but with the introduction of the Feed In Tariffs (FIT's), the UK government will now guarantee payments of 41p for all the electricity you generate irrespective of whether you use it or not. Current FITs will be paid for 25 years for Solar PV systems. Add this to the money you save by not using electricity from the grid, and potentially revenue from units you generate but do not use (exporting), then the payback period can fall to less than 10 years. Our solar panels have a guaranteed power output over 25 years, so putting panels on your roof will generate significant income over the lifetime of the system.

What do I need?
A shade free aspect facing generally towards the south (Even East and West systems are viable). This can be a roof or some spare room in your garden. Our  guideline system prices are for a roof mounting PV system which is the most common, but we can also quote for garden mounted panels. You will also require an electricity supply to the property.

How are the panels mounted?
The system prices below are for a 'on-roof installation'. The panels are mounted on top of your existing tiles. Panels can also be mounted in-roof and this configuration is often used on new-build properties as it has a superior integrated look. EcoEnergy can supply both in-roof and on-roof panels installations.

Do they need sunshine?
No, just light. Obviously, direct sunshine generates more, but electricity will even be generated on dull days. In winter the amount of solar radiation really drops off so you will generate 10% of your summer output during December and January.

What do the systems consist of?
A number of solar panels to produce the electricity. These are normally linked in a daisy-chain configuration to an inverter. The inverter converts the DC power generated by the panels to usable 240v electricity that you can use in your house. If your panels produce too much electricity, then the surplus is exported to the grid, if you don't produce enough, then any extra electricity required is taken from the grid in the normal way. The inverter is connected to your consumer unit or fuse box, and every unit of electricity is recorded on an OFGEM accredited electricity meter.
