DIY Solar Kit with Thermal Store

Tired of tepid showers and low pressure from your hot water then upgrade to our mains pressure thermal store DIY solar kits.

This price includes VAT and delivery to your door.

Why a thermal store?
Unlike traditional unvented cylinder thermal stores operate at low pressure and therefore not classified as a "Controlled Service" and are suitable for DIY installation. They provide mains pressure hot water and the tanks can be located anywhere in a property. They also do not require a regular safety check or annual service.

Our solar kit consists of:

  • 18 SuperTube Consol Collector. (L:1800mm W:1580mm)
  • Now as standard Novasol pump station. Integrated pump, fill and flush manifold, pressure relief valve, and expansion connector.
  • Industry standard Resol BS3 Solar Controller and temperature sensors
  • EcoEnergy Header Tank System (no need for an expansion cylinder)
  • 174Ltr UK Manufactured Solar Thermal Store Cylinder (H:1500mm W:500mm)
  • 2 x 1M Length of insulated pipe for connection through the roof.
The pressurised system include
  • Solar rated 18Ltr Expansion Vessel and connection set
  • 10 Litres of pre-mixed Tyfocor LS antifreeze.
For installation into existing homes or new builds. Just supply the pipe work and off you go.

The system is suitable for installation into homes with a standard boiler system (not a combi boiler). If you have less than 1.5 Bar pressure coming into the house, then a thermal store is not recommended. For a detailed description of the thermal store, read the description in the Solar Hot Water Section of the website. If you are unsure about your homes suitability give us a call on 01244 630121 to discuss your project or send us an enquiry on enquires@ecoenergydepot.co.uk. Customised kits are available on request

Consol SuperTube Collectors
The Consol Supertubes are 1800mm long and 58mm in diameter. These use a vacuum tube to maximise the energy extracted during daylight hour. Solar Panels do not need direct sunlight to operate and will generate hot water even on cloudy days. Consol collectors have been tested by the SPF in Geneva and conform to EN12975. Each tube can generate up to 10Ltrs of hot water a day.

The EcoEnergy Header Tank system
The EcoEnergy solar kits come with a unique header tank system. This is a small reservoir about the size of a large tin of peaches which is fed by the mains cold water supply and has an overflow to the outside. The header tank needs to be fitted above the height of the collector, but dispenses with the need for messy expansion cylinders and pressurised filling greatly simplifying installation. Air trapped in the system is also automatically vented through the tank. Pressurised kits are also available on request for a small additional charge.

Easy to Install and Maintain
Consol solar collectors have been designed so they are easy to fit and install and are suitable for most types of roof. The collectors come in an easy to assemble package and are normally fitted to the roof using stainless steel straps inserted under the roof tiles and attached to a roof truss.

Roof Orientation
Ideally you require a shade free South facing roof, but even East or West facing roofs with a 35 degree pitch can achieve efficiencies of 80%.

Household Water Consumption
The DIY kit has been design for small families and will generate up to 180ltrs of solar water in the summer period. Most householders utilise between 40-70 litres of hot water a day, so this kit will be suitable for families of up to 4-5 people.
